Why Oriental Rugs Are a Different Category
A true oriental rug, Persian, Turkish, Afghan, or another traditional weave, is hand-knotted by an artisan, often over months, using wool, silk, or a blend, with a cotton or silk foundation underneath. That construction doesn't tolerate the same mechanized process used on a machine-made area rug. Oriental rug cleaning means hand-washing, dye testing suited to natural and vegetable dyes, and drying methods that protect a foundation that can be decades or centuries old.
